So I'm a sniper it seems

According to a test I just did on Wegame, a site like youtube, but specificly tailored fo..... A c'mon as a gamer you should already know about Wegame :D

Anyway this test told me that I was a sniper, I found this interesting because I usually play sniper in TF2 as well and the answers I gave lead me to believe that I was either going to be engineer or spy, which are also favorites of mine... You usually won't find me doing tests like these, but heck... I was bored...

Ah well, it is pretty accurate, but also pretty easy to manipulate of course! If you know things from TF2

Forgotten Hope 2.15 trailer

Article mirror Forgotten Hope 2.15 trailer

I just saw some awesome stuff in this trailer filmed and edited by Bob Sacamano. A Tiger totally unimpressed by Shermans firing at him, grappling hooks. Some green leaves (I hate the desert)

It impressed so much that it has sparked my interest in Forgotten Hope 2 once more. I am somewhat saddened by the fact that FH1 has close to no population anymore (good-unmodded servers that is), while it is still the better game in this equision. Well at least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong here, I like the fact that they moved on to a more flashy engine and are working on FH 2. But it just lacks in content currently.

Also I don’t see myself playing arcady ww2 shooters for very long. But maybe, just maybe I can see myself playing Forgotten Hope 2 from now on with these additions.

Here’s the trailer in question!

Now all that is left is to get Battlefield 2 running properly before this version is released...

Finally, with some help from my buddy Emiel "Equinsu Ocha" Drent, I’ve now finished a Jurassic Park spoof using the Team Fortress 2 universe.

The first video was a simple test. I used voiceovers and sounds taken from the scene where Robert Muldoon tries to kill the Raptors, only to get flanked and killed. There is no engaging of anything in the first video. It was mainly to see if I could get Faceposer to work properly in TF2.

The second/final video has the complete storyline I was aiming for and even a little surprise at the end of the credits. I also used some nicer camera angles and effects like camera shake, panning, zooming and rolling.

Nothing more to say other then enjoy...

TF2 - Missheard Teamspeak conversation

Some more testing with the faceposer from Valve, this time with a Teamspeak file I had lying around for a while. I misunderstood Madman when he said British. I heard something different. It is recorded when we were in the game lobby of Company of Heroes. But I thought it would also fit the TF2 theme, especially 2fort.

This has once again been recorded with me and some bots. I really need to get these guys in the Youtube to help me out in some longer machinimas, I guess...

Anyway have fun watching :)

Youtube embedded annotations!

Article mirror Youtube embedded annotations!

It seems Youtube finally made annotations viewable in embeded youtubes, yay. Quite a good move as I have some annotations that eplain or "fix" some typo I made. They are of course not needed, but can be quite usefull and entertaining even...

For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about. Annotations are text balloons you see in some Youtubes if you have this feature turned on. It is a feature that allows a Youtubian to add text to his already uploaded Youtube. This way he or she can explain something or have some random comment in there without having to reupload the Youtube... If a Youtube has annotations, it will say so at the bottom "this video has annotations". If you want this feature enabled (which I think it is by default), you can use the button on a Youtube on the bottom right and click it. If you hover over it, it will show you a red icon. If it is red the annotations are on.

I see that I used the word Youtube a lot, it is a funny word if you think about it...

Now this might not be game related, but I do have a lot of game related Youtubes. So there you have it...

TF2 - Jurassic Park, Muldoon vs Raptors

Content and future content is now hosted on Existence-Unknown.com
Article mirror TF2 - Jurassic Park, Muldoon vs Raptors

After a long time trying to figure out how the Faceposer tool by Valve actually works and also why it doesn't work as well on TF2. I am missing animation thumbnails and play buttons, which could of course be a setup fault of mine. If it is then I said nothing :D

Anyway, I now finally made this machinima-short for a scene in Jurassic Park.

I still hate the way Faceposer works though (for TF2) and also the way the ingame tf_testvcd works, it is of course a lot better the using the old way (or so I read). But I've learned to live with it. I still would like the console command to have an extra option to input the target name of the player/bot who has to play the scene. Currently you have to point at the player/bot you want to use for the scene.

Can you imaging the annoyance I had with this particular scene where only two bots had to play a scene simultaniously to get the audio sync correct, imagin going over that quite low number of bots…

To get the audio synchronized I made the sniper's scene dibiliratly 0.5 seconds out of sync with the audio. Then I used some fps shooting action, aiming at the bots, and starting the scene relative to the bot by using my mouse1 (bound to the sniper) and mouse2 (bound to the scout scene). This way all of the lipsync in the final video would be in sync with the audio.

Welcome to annoyance 101...

Company of Heroes is amazing - Relic not so much

Content and future content is now hosted on Existence-Unknown.com
Article mirror Company of Heroes is amazing - Relic not so much

When I finally think they have things running pretty well in company of heroes, they go and up the anti of stupidity. I do not play the game for stats, stats are for statwhores and completely useless to me. I do not take any value in them at all. Achievements are another story, if they aren't setup as some of the TF2 medic achievements, which promote statwhoring. A game with achievements which promote teamplay and can be completed by just playing the game are nice. Also linking weapons or items to them is a popular game eddition that a lot of game developers seem to embrace, yet it is a big failure and does not promote anything they are trying to promote (teamplay/fun). To bad even Valve is doing this. Anyway, enough about achievements...

Imaging the annoyance I get from seeing Relic's stupidity reach another high.

I was playing a match versus the AI, as I like to play until the end and destroy the entire enemy base with LOAD upon LOADS of craters everywhere. I always play airborne or the defensive doctrine so the craters do not belong to me, well at least not all of them ^_^ This type of map destruction is simply not possible online versus players as they usually quit the game and in this case I just don't see any point in finishing of the now replacement AI.

Now here's the thing, I (and my friends) like to take our time to completely level the level, hehe. This takes time and normally people like to play quick rounds, I guess. The AI never complains or quits so this is the main reason I only play against the AI (always outnumbering our teams by 1 or 2)

Now onto the very nice message we received from Relic. It seems the match was arbitrary, in other words the outcome to calculate the stats was not clear, now normally such a message would not annoy me, but what DID ANNOY THE HELL out of me was the fact that the match now had ended because of this stats related problem.

Well thank you Relic for completely screwing up and ruining our fun of coming back from the brink of destruction. This message popped up when we were about to setup our first offensive move in a long time due to resource problems and the enemy pounding on our frontlines pushing us back into our base. The map near our base and in our base was near black from artillery and other kind of explosions. You could call it an EPIC BATTLE, just as we like it. Coming back from the brink of destruction overcoming the odds.

We were given the choice to view the stats and points earned or have a look at the battlefield. I chose the second, because continuing our awesome battle was not an option and I like to have a look at all the destruction we've caused and perhaps take a screenshot or two.

However I would've rather continued the battle as we've been looking forward after ~1.5 hours to push the Germans back. But alas Relic, in all their wisdom, thinks that their statwhoring system was more important and ended the match...

I say to you Relic: You create a game that is completely dependant on your online stat and login servers and their stability is VERY questionable. You do know about Valve Software and their Steam platform? Same idea, but Steam actually works! And now you come online into our games and state that the game is arbitrary for stats calculation? Screw you Relic and GTFO with your failure of a stats system.

The only thing, which keeps me playing this game, is the fact that the game itself is extremely awesome. But PUHLEASE keep your statwhoring system out of my face and game. Also do something about the stability of you servers, I mean you don’t design a game which is dependant on these servers and have the servers crash or go off-line all the time. Or is this working as intended, well to be fair they have not been off-line for a while now. So I guess this has been fixed for the time being.

It’s so sad to see you guys develop awesome cutting edge games like the Homeworld series, Company of Heroes. And fail completely in terms of stability when CoH is concerned. If this keeps up I fear for CoH Online, creating another game that is complely dependant on online servers seems like a bad idea if you guys can’t even get CoH+OF running properly...

Prove me wrong Relic as your games are awesome, but these discisions are simply bad until the day you fix them!

GTFO Valve with this combat medic!

GTFO Valve with this combat medic!

Now I'm not one to speak badly about games in general, but if things get this bad even I will say so. Must be that positive attitude I have towards everything!

This seems to be the new medic

Some of the Medic achievements were dodgy at a first glance.

- ubering a scout
- getting a heavy to punch during an uber
- shooting people for an achievement
- bonesawing people for an achievement

And a lot more combat type of achievements. Now normally this wouldn't be a problem, because the medic also does combat in a normal round. But what is a problem that some of these achievements are impossible to complete if you play the medic as he should be played.

Seriously Valve, were you guys drunk or stoned once again. With once again, I'm referring to the silly crits system that they have implemented from the start. Which is something I could live with, but this crap is totally bogus. They probably have a different idea on what a medic is/was in TF2.

During the previous versions, he was a combat support class who heals people and keeps the team alive. A jewel to have around when pyros go on a frenzy. And they were essential to push on maps that need ubers.

Now even with the new weapons, which you can unlock with achievements it still is

A COMBAT SUPPORT CLASS

It seems Valve has promoted the medic to a combat role, if you look at certain achievements.

It is quite weird as Valve is a top-notch game designer, and to have the crème de la crème screw up like this is just sad.

First they have the console command unlocked where you can simply type the unlock achievement command to get all of the achievements without doing any work. Well they fixed it with a patch, but some people already used it (not sure if they are going to reset their medics stats though). And now this...

These achievements promote un-medic like behaviour by people who usually do not play medic. Resulting in 80% medic teams as I said before, which only go for the achievements. I've seen people running around with the bonesaw, while they have an uber ready or people walking around with a heavy who only punches during an uber.

Come on Valve couldn't you in all your wisdom predict this kind of behaviour when implementing achievements that promote this kind of crap? The old achievements could be completed by playing the game as you should be playing it, these new medic achievements are just screwing over the already hard to find good medics and replacing them with statwhores.

Also I'm kind of curious as to why there are no achievements for the new map pl_goldrush. I kind of expected them, but alas they do not exist.

Well let's hope they will somehow rectify this nonsense by changing the achievements, if they are as wise as we all think they are...
At least the new weapons and map are very nice, but the way you need to play to get the new weapons is just screwed up beyond repair.

TF2 medical treatment patch

Content and future content is now hosted on Existence-Unknown.com
Article mirror
TF2 medical treatment patch

So here we have it, a new Team Fortress 2 patch. We can also call it medical treatment of TeamFortress 2 as it has a lot of new achievements for the medic specifically. 36 new achievements and also a new equipment system, currently only for the medic. If a medic completes a certain amount of the achievement, he receives a new weapon. These weapons can be used as well as the old weapons but not in the same weapon loadout, it is all up to the medic on how he wants to play the game.

A funny or rather annoying side note is that since the patch went live, I've seen a lot of 80% medic teams. Which is bad if you want any kind of performance on lets say cp_dustbowl as attacking team. All of them went bone saw crazy if they spotted an enemy. Because hitting enemies with your bonesaw 5 times in a row without dying or missing will complete the Sawbones achievement.

Most likely people who are now playing the medic are not part of the usual medic crew, I've seen a lot of people trying to fake the achievements by having a buddy on the enemy team. So yeah achievements might give us lots of medics for a while, however their USEFULNESS is VERY questionable!!! Heh what did Valve expect anyway with just adding this to one class (I know its about time issues and all, but still :D)

The new weapons:

The Blutsaugher
(Milestone 1: 12/36 medic achievements)
This new weapon will still shoot syringes, but you will not be able to get crits hits out of this weapon. Another difference is that it will instead convert an enemy's health into your health upon hitting them. A very nice weapon for retreating or when you're low on health and other medics are busy

The Critzcreig (Milestone 2: 24/36 medic achievements)
This new medigun has a different ubercharge, instead of making you and your buddy invulnerable. It will give your buddy the ability to shoot crits for the duration of the charge. It will be fun of course, but the lack of invulnerbility will make you a sitting duck if you get over confident.

The Ubersaw (Milestone 3: All medic achievements)
It has a fitting name for the self proclaimed "uber mench". This weapon will turn hits on enemies into Ubercharge. And with only 4 hits on enemies it will charge your medigun to 100%. This way you can unleash the pain on the enemy much faster, which is always fun.

In other news, Valve has also finally released the new map goldrush. This map will feature a dynamic control point per section of the map or should I say a big bomb on a train carriage, which moves trough the map. Team Blu has to stay close to the carriage to make it move towards the checkpoints and, you guessed it, Team Red has to stop this from happening or bad things will happen to them if it reaches the final checkpoint. Think of it as dustbowl while on the move. A fresh and new idea, which I happen to like a lot.

And you can now try TF2 for free:

Finally breathing new life into a classic
yet cutting edge Half-Life 1 modification
with the release of map pack #1

Natural Selection (a Half-Life 1 RTS+FPS hybride modification) was first launched on October 31, 2002 with version 1.0, it is up to version 3.2 as of now and has seen a lot of changes over the years. All this time there has never been an officially supported map pack. Sure a lot of servers had custom map packs, but these were not officially supported.

There were however a few occasions where the developers anounced they were looking to create an official fan map pack. Yet all of the attempts failed to take shape, mostly because the developers were to busy working on Natural-Selection and their new game Natural-Selection 2 (still under development).

Now finally after all these years there is a community member (Brent 'Stix&Stonz' Mitchell) who took the step into realising a fan map pack. There were a few before him who also tried, but never got to playtesting/bugtesting and actually releasing a map pack. If he plays his cards right, it might also be officially supported, complete with a news article on the NS main website. The map pack(s) will be released in iterations, the first step is of course map pack #1 and, here comes the most important part, map pack #1 has been released, you can download it from:

Forgotten Hope 2, the Great Crusade

Content and future content is now hosted on Existence-Unknown.com
Article mirror Forgotten Hope 2, the Great Crusade

img source news article

The great crusade as the title implies is related to the famous message from president Dwight D. Eisenhower. So it stands to say this title is a big hint towards the next theater of war for Forgotten Hope 2.

SUPREME HEADQUARTERS ALLIED EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower
Order of the Day
June 6, 1944

For those of you who are tired of all the dust and continuously brushing of the sand from your uniforms, equipment, vehicles and everything else it can get into. This new theater of war on the western front of Europe might be a welcome change of scenery. Be aware that the machines of war have also become more efficient killing machines as the war progresses. So it might not be a good change, when it concerns your very survival!

Let's hope we can go and drive the Panthers of war very soon. I do have to confess that I haven't been playing FH2 after 2 weeks from the initial release. I just haven't been able to get BF2 (the game the mod runs on) to run properly. It kept crashing my entire pc with a hard soundloop crash only able to recover with a hard reset. This happened about 20 minutes into the game, each and every time (only in mutliplayer). However to get my weekly fix of WW2 fps, I did play FH2's bigger brother Forgotten Hope. Its just to bad that most servers except 2 or 3 populated servers, are gone.

TF2 update, february 19

As always with Valve, if there are problems or there is some small issue with one of their games, they try to release a patch/update ASAP. I just love Valve and their professional attitude towards supporting their games.

Team Fortress Update released

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

Team Fortress 2

· Fixed Badlands exploits and missing textures

· Fixed tv_enable resetting maxplayers value

· Fixed a case where a spy stabbing from the front of a player would score a backstab

· Fixed stats being reported incorrectly for some players

· Dropped weapons now replenish half of your max ammo when picked up

· Added exec'ing a cfg\.cfg file on the client when you select a class to play (for real this time!)

· Reverted mp_forcecamera changes from previous release and set TF2 default back to 1

source

Fixed a case where a spy stabbing from the front of a player would score a backstab?

Well, there goes a lot of my spy kills out the window!!!

Seriously though this will stop some annoyance from wrongly registered backstabs, but also make the spy harder to play once more. Which is good if you ask me, I love a challenge from time to time and the spy class is just that versus a team that is aware. Did I mention I hate pyro's, but also love them, it's all a matter of perspective. Burning stuff and burning are two totally different things where one is fun and the other, well... Not so much...

Ah well, Valve is a top notch company that will dish out update and patch one after the other if something needs fixing.

Ride your music

Audiosurf is a music-adapting puzzle racer where you use your own music to create your own experience. The shape, the speed, and the mood of each ride is determined by the song you choose. You earn points for clustering together blocks of the same color on the highway, and compete with others on the Internet for the highscore on your favorite songs.

source

Tetris? Well it kind of has a Tetris-like feel to it when you look at the block collecting and creating rows, but the similarities end there. The game is quite a fresh and shiny idea and it also comes with the Organge box OST. You know, the gamebox with Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. The game is bought trough the steam store, the price is a one time $9.95 (excl VAT).

Media:

Trying my best yet I'm not that good =D
The song is from SNES: F-Zero - Big Blue

Verdict:
At a first glance this game looks very basic... But this is also true for some other infamous games that are very addictive. Audiosurf is a game that has an overkill in that department, because the game is never the same with each and every song you use to generate the tracks. Hugely extending it's replay value.

If you want to play the game without much fuss you can load up a slow song and on the other hand if you want to go at it at full speed, you can load up a fast song. The nice thing is this very feature. You play on a race track with your own favorite music and the game calcuates the race tracks plus obstacles based on the song.

90/100 = musthave
especially if you're into highspeed puzzle gaming

I've been away from consoles for a long time, I do have a Nintendo Wii because it looked like fun (which it is). However this does stop me from playing this game called Mass Effect. Perhaps one of the few reasons for me to buy another specific console.

Mass effect is set to come to the PC on may 2008, with bigger and better graphics it seems judging from the news item. Now let's just hope they also add a ton of features to the game (which is already quite big) that aren't included in the 360 version. Also lets hope those very same features/additions are available to the 360 players trough Xbox LIVE or all hell will break loose...

Mass Effect To Land On Pc In May 2008

Published by EA and re-designed for the PC, Mass Effect invites players to take the role of Commander Shepard as they set out on an adventure to save the galaxy from imminent destruction. Wrought with treachery, heroism, difficult decisions and a universe filled with unique and colorful species, Mass Effect delivers a truly compelling storyline.

  • Optimized controls designed specifically for the PC.
  • High resolution visuals – Mass Effect for the PC features highly detailed textures, characters and environments.

  • Run & Gun Control – Players can assign biotic powers or skills to 'hot keys' allowing them to play Mass Effect with a heavier focus on action.
  • New decryption mini-game.
  • New inventory screen GUI and functionality – The enhanced inventory system makes it easier for players to equip and modify their weapons and armor.
"Mass Effect serves as a powerful example of video games as an art form, delivering new levels of emotional intensity, realistic characters and a gripping storyline – all set in a compelling new universe," said Ray Muzyka, General Manager, BioWare and Vice President, Electronic Arts. Frank Gibeau, President of EA's Games Label added, "EA has struck an agreement with Microsoft to handle future publishing for Mass Effect. We are looking forward to releasing Mass Effect on the PC this Spring and brand new titles in the future." Originally released for the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system, Mass Effect has received critical acclaim throughout the world with more than 70 awards including Game of the Year, Console Game of the Year and Role-Playing Game of the Year. That is good to hear, as a simple port to pc won't work for any fps or over the shoulder shooter

It looks like I'm going to need to upgrade the final part of my PC, the aging 3dcard. I mean I have to view these hot graphics at max everything! I am starting to feel that my X850XT Platinum is starting to have troubles with some games.

A game I have been looking forward to, now finally has a release date, an official one that is. The game looked ready a few months ago and I was hoping for an earlier release, but we still have to wait for it a little bit more.

Spore has its releasedate set on september 7, 2008.

I hope the game is as good as I think it will be, because if this is even close to what I think it will be it will be the best game ever released. It has all the potential in the world given Will Wright's track record, I'm not to worried about this at all.
